Mowbray: We'll Have To Make Sure The Back Door Is Shut

Coventry City manager Tony Mowbray has said that the City team must ensure that their defence is tight in Sunday's vital League One game at Crawley Town.

Speaking to the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner, Mowbray said “Strange things happen in football matches on the last day.

“As it stands, Crawley have to win and that might mean they have six or seven men up for every corner and set play and are really gambling. We have to see that out and counter attack.

“For this weekend, let’s make sure we stay in the game early on, don’t do anything stupid and I’m sure we’ll grow into the football match and I’d like to think become the dominant team.

"You have to make sure the back door is shut and not defend like we did at the weekend.

“Generally the mistakes have been cut down with four clean sheets away from home but it has been a different kettle of fish at the Ricoh because you have to try to go out and win the match, and that generally exposes you a little bit.

“I contemplate a lot of things and maybe we should have been more defensive and sat in and not attacked as much against Crewe, and yet my nature is to go out and attack. But at the same time we are not blessed with goal scorers.

“I am sure both teams will have a radio or information coming in to tell them what’s going on elsewhere.

“Let’s hope it doesn’t happen but there might be a scenario where results are going such that they only need a point. A point is good enough for us and we’re just passing it around in each other’s half.

“Let’s hope that doesn’t happen because it’s not very nice and not good for the game, but you never know.

“On the other hand, we might need a goal and do what we did at Oldham where we had Reda up front with four or five strikers on the pitch and then there’s a danger of losing another goal. Let’s see how it falls.”
