Mowbray - Up To Thomas And Maddison To Force Their Way In

Coventry City manager Tony Mowbray has said it is up to Conor Thomas and James Maddison to force themselves into the first team reckoning.

Thomas' career appeared to go backwards whilst Steven Pressley was at the club but now with Tony Mowbray giving him a clean slate, the midfielder has a new chance to force his way into the first team as does James Maddison.

Speaking to the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner, Tony Mowbray said: “I am really pleased with Conor who has shown me why he has built such a good reputation.

“In pre-season this year he’s giving me, not a headache, but something to think about because he’s looked powerful, strong and fast.

"He’s been competitive and tackling people on the training ground and knocking them over, and looks as if he’s hungry and wants to show me he’s a good player.

“With total respect to him, he’s showing me more than I saw at the end of last season so he’s come back really hungry to force his way into the team which is a real bonus for us.

“James Maddison has already proved his potential and I like young players like George Thomas who are really exciting.

"It’s up to them to make their mark, coming off the bench and getting the odd start, and trying to force themselves in on a regular basis so they can build their careers here at Coventry.”
