The midfielder, came through the Coventry City ranks but had his contract ended after he failed to tell the club about a court appearance.
Speaking to Chad.co.uk, Mansfield boss David Holdsworth said: "Kevin will train with us for a month. He needs to improve his fitness levels.
"It just shows what can happen in football when circumstances intervene, but he is a very talented player and we are delighted that he wants to join Mansfield Town.
"He is a Championship player and someone who could be very useful to us in the future."
