Manager Appointment Update

You will recall two previous letters regarding the managerial situation at Coventry City Football Club following the departure of Micky Adams. There has been much speculation in the newspapers recently and I think it is only right to keep the fans as up-to-date on the process as we possibly can.

I have been appointed by the Board to act as Chairman of a Manager's Selection Panel which also comprises of Joe Elliott, Mal Brannigan, Ken Sharp and Mike McGinnity. We are also involving in the process a well known sports scientist who happens to be a lifelong Sky Blues fan who will help us to assess each candidate.

The Panel have already had three meetings and I would report that we are currently halfway through the process. To date we have had over 40 “suitable” applications and over 40 "unsuitable" ones.

We have produced a criteria checklist which has been developed with the help of both our Associate Directors and the Supporters' Consultative Group. In fact, we had a three hour meeting with the SCG late into the evening recently, listening to their views and taking them on board. From these meetings with have finally agreed on the mandatory attributes required in our next manager.

This week we reduced the list of 40 “suitable” applicants down to shortlist of six very strong candidates, who are all being invited to an initial interview, starting the week commencing February 19.

We cannot hurry the process but I, along with my fellow members of the Selection Panel are wholeheartedly committed to ensuring that the next manager of Coventry City is the right person for the job.
