Coventry City winger David Bell is hoping to get hios ankle problems sorted as soon as possible so that he can provide a decent service for the City forwards next season as well as getting amongst the goals himself.

"I can't go away for two or three weeks because that is too long away from having rehab," said Bell to the CT. "The main thing is that I get my ankle sorted.

"That's got to be my priority this summer so that come the first day of the season I am fit and ready to play.

"I was carrying my injury all season but I had it operated on a couple of weeks ago and I am on the mend now and really looking forward to getting a good pre-season under my belt.

"I want to start the season in the team, play in every game and try to score a few more goals.

"Hopefully I will be playing in my better position on the right, but we will have to see.

"I do like to get goals from midfield and next year I will set myself a target of how many I should score, but I feel I should score more than I do and hopefully I can put that right next season.

"I know Clinton Morrison is desperate to get more balls in the box and that will be my job if I am in the team - to provide the centre-forwards with chances for goals

"I have had eight or nine assists for goals this season, including my games

for Norwich, which is good for a midfield player. But hopefully next year I will have a good, long season and score and provide as many goals as I can."

Although Bell's operation went well, he revealed it was far from straightforward.

"I did it in pre-season with Norwich when a lad came over and caught me on the outside of my right ankle," he explained.

"The impact caused two bits of bone to come off and tore the ligament off the bone.

"The surgeon said the operation was a bit of a conundrum because he knew what the injury was but wasn't exactly sure what he was going to find until he went in.

"But he took out a couple of bits of bone that had chipped off my ankle, repaired the ligaments and tore away the scar tissue.

"He said it was a little bit of a mess in there but he was happy with how it went and says I should be good for a speedy recovery.

"He said I would be back running in six weeks so hopefully over the summer I will be in to see the physios and doing my rehab and looking to come back strong and fit.

"I was on crutches for the first week and a half after the operation but I am walking fine now, three weeks into my rehab. There is still a long way to go but I am optimistic that I am going to have a quick recovery."
