Johnson: I Don't Need The Armband To Play For Coventry

Reda Johnson has said that losing the captain's armband does not stop him playing for Coventry City.

Many were not happy when Johnson was given the captaincy at the start of the season and now Pressley has decided that the now clean shaven Jim O'Brien will lead out the team and captain the side.

Speaking to the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner, Johnson said:  “I spoke to the manager on Monday and he told me I wasn’t the captain any more. I will just play my football and give my best for Coventry and that’s it, whether that’s at left-back or centre-back, I will give what I have got to give. I always give 100 per cent when I am on the pitch so when people judge me for something outside of football I think it hurts me a bit.

“He might think I am not the right example outside of football but he has never told me anything is wrong with my football.

“He is not happy with the other side so he took his decision and I am happy with it. I don’t need the armband to play for Coventry.

“He (Pressley) is not happy with the way I do things like my wee is not white, it’s yellow because I don’t drink enough water, or I don’t do enough in the gym. It’s things like that he wants his captain to do and give a good example.

“He was thinking it wasn’t good enough for him and that’s his choice and I respect it.”
