I Was So Confident I Would Score - Clingan

Coventry City midfielder Sammy Clingan has admitted to pulling rank on Gary McSheffrey over the penalty, which he went on to have saved at Leicester City on Saturday.

Clingan had just come on as a substitute when City, who were 2-0 down, were awarded a penalty. He grabbed the ball from McSheffrey who had scored his last two penalties and had the spot kick easily saved by former City loanee keeper Kasper Schmeichel, much to the disgust of the City support.

Speaking to the CT, Clingan said: “Sheffs wanted it as well but I was so confident that I would score the penalty.

“It was my first touch after I had gone on and I can look back on it and say I should have put it the other side but, to be fair, the keeper made a good save and I couldn’t have hit it any neater.”
