Peterborough United boss Darren Ferguson said he knows what it is like to be bottom of the league and sympthasied with Andy Thorn who had seen his side put everything into trying to get a result but went down to a 1-0 defeat.

Speaking to the Press Association, Ferguson said:  "I know what it's like to be bottom of the league from my time at Preston and decisions don't tend to go for you when you're down there.

"I didn't get a good enough view to judge whether or not it was a penalty and I'm just pleased we got the victory we needed.

"We wanted to go into Christmas with a win for the fans so it goes down as a good day. The clean sheet is an added bonus.

"Sometimes a player can make a manager look like a fool when coming on and playing as well as Paul did. He was terrific and Emile put the chance away superbly."
