Derby County lead the Championship by three points from Sunderland after a 2-1 win at Barnsley. Second placed Sunderland won 1-0 at Cardiff. The biggest shock of the day came at Molineux where Wolves were beaten 6-0 by Southampton. There were wins for Hull,Ipswich,Stoke,Colchester,Sheffield Wednesday and West Brom. City remain in 14th place.

Locally, Nuneaton Borough drew 1-1 with Worcester City. Rugby Town lost 2-1 at home to Banbury but Bedworth won their Midland Division match beating Rothwell Town 2-1 at The Oval.

Avun Jephcott scored for Leamington in a 3-0 win at Oldbury United. Former Sphinx winger Jamie Towers had set up both goals before scoring himself. In the Midland Alliance local derby, Stratford Town won 3-0 at Atherstone with Racing Club Warwick beating Coalville 2-1.

Coventry Sphinx went three points clear at the top of the Midland Combination Premier Division with a 4-0 victory at Meir KA. Robbie Stevenson and Craig Martin gave Sphinx the lead at the break with substitute Chris Harris netting twice in the second half. After the game,flowers were laid on the spot where former manager Willie Knibbs was killed in a car crash five years ago.

Massey Ferguson lost 2-0 at Bolehall, Alveston lost 3-2 at home to Continental Star whilst Southam drew 2-2 with Feckenham

In the Second Division,Coventry Sphinx Reserves beat league leaders Chelmsley Town 6-0 at Sphinx Drive. Lee Knibbs side led four-nil at the break with goals from McBean,Elliott,Scott and Wayne Pulford who went on to complete his hat-trick.

Highgate United who were reinstated in the Telegraph Cup Quarter Final after winning an appeal about fielding an ineligible player beat Stockingford and now face Triumph in the Semi-Final on Thursday night.
