Give Us Something To Cheer About

As Tim Flowers was sat watching City's pathetic performance at Leicester on Saturday, he could not have failed to hear the chant from the 2,500 City supporters of "We're Sh*t and We're Sick Of It". It summed up the way things have been going over the last few months on the pitch where supporters have paid good money to see City beaten and players clearly not correctly motivated.

Now the Board have taken action and appointed Iain Dowie, the only man available who met their criteria and was not going to cost a fortune in compensation. Whether it's a case of "appoint in haste, repent at leisure", time will tell but if the board want to sell season tickets in greater numbers than this time round then Mr Dowie is going to have to start producing results immediately.

Unfortunately, the timing of Micky Adams departure means that the transfer window is long since shut although we can still get players on loan for another month. So Mr Dowie and his backroom team are going to have use their man-management skills to the fullest degree to ensure that the togetherness they desire is born out in results. We do have some good and talented players at this club but whether they have the mentality to get us into the Premiership or whether they are here for a pay cheque is open to debate. The players are on their own when it comes to getting on the pitch and they will have to take some collective responsibilty and battle as one if they want to progress.

It is good to see a manager interested in the Academy and Reserves, Peter Reid showed no interest whilst Micky Adams who did attend a lot of reserve games did say that his priority was the eighteen first team players keeping him in a job. If Dowie can establish a system whereby all three sides are playing attractive football then I'm sure he will be well backed by supporters but actions speak a lot louder than words and results even more so.

Having had six managers in six years, supporters have had enough of what a new manager intends to do. We need someone to make sure the job is done with more matches won than lost. With Dowie we have a chance to do this, he has a good managerial record,is well respected in the game and the times I have met him at various reserve team matches, I have always found him pleasant and a decent human being to speak to. If he can get the players to develop and perform with proper backing in the transfer market then maybe Operation Premiership will have a better chance of succeeding than it had before.
