Former Coventry City Director Sir Derek Higgs died suddenly yesterday aged 64.

Higgs had been a director of the Sky Blues until earlier this season when he stepped down along with Geoffrey Robinson and Mike McGinnity after ten years.

He was also Chairman of the Alliance & Leicester Building Society and Chairman of The Alan Edward Higgs Charity. Seen as a leading industrialist, he was Knighted three yars ago.

Said Joe Elliott to the club website: "The Alan Edward Higgs Charity and Coventry City Council were instrumental in turning the vision of the Ricoh into the thriving reality of today.

"Derek never forgot his Coventry roots and as well as being instrumental in Coventry City's new home at the Ricoh Arena, he also played a part in the creation of the Alan Edward Higgs sports centre in Allard Way which is used by the club's academy. "It will be strange not to see Derek at Sky Blues matches and our thoughts go to Lady Higgs and her family."
