Fans Federation Launch Safe Standing Report

Last updated : 30 May 2007 By Covsupport
The Football Supporters Federation has launched a report putting the case for safe standing at major football stadia in England and Wales.

A recent survey saw 92% of 100,000 supporters who responded to a survey call for supporters to be given a choice of whether they stand at sit at matches.

All seater stadiums were introduced following the 1989 Hillsborough Disaster and subsequent Taylor Report which was left open to interpretation and left the Football Authorities and Government of the time in a vulnerable position where certain seat manufacturers were able to exploit this.

Such was the influence that clubs in the top two divisions were forced to go all seater and clubs wanting to build new stadiums could only get grants if they built grounds with no terracing.

Millions of spectators do stand in perfect safety at other football matches including those City supporters who have stood during the season just gone at Cardiff,Colchester and Hereford as do those at other events such as concerts.

Covsupport backs the calls for the Government to look at grounds around Europe and making changes to give every supporter the option of sitting or standing.
