Former Coventry City player David Pipe was arrested on Wednesday in Bristol.

Pipe was questioned on suspicion of assault after a fight had seen a man suffer a fractured skull and has been released on police bail. He is awaiting any disciplinary action from his club Bristol Rovers.

According to an Avon and Someret police spokesman speaking to Original Bristol.com: ''A 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault in relation to an incident which occurred at 4am on Wednesday.  Police were called to a disturbance near a bar in Park Street.  A 29-year-old man suffered serious head injuries and it was suggested he had been hit over the head with one or more bottles.  He is recovering in Frenchay Hospital with a fractured skull.''

The midfielder came through City's ranks to make 21 first team appearances between 2001 and 2004.

He was taken to Notts County by former City Reserve team boss Gary Mills and joined Bristol Rovers in July 2007.
