Former Coventry City defender Calum Davenport, who was stabbed in both legs last year in a domestic dispute, has signed for a Bedford club Wooton Blue Cross, who play in the United Counties League
Wooton Blue Cross Manager Andy Arnold told the Daily Mail: "Calum is a local boy and is good friends with a couple of my players. He is on a very long road and if we can help him one per cent of the way back to fitness it will have been worthwhile."
The 27 year old defender, who had his contract with West Ham terminated following the stabbing incident, joined Coventry City in 2001 as a trainee and played 75 times for the club before moving to Spurs in 2004, eventually arriving at West Ham in 2007.
Davenport had been training with Leeds United during the summer but no deal was offered.
