Coventry City progressed to the FA Cup Third Round with a Second Round 2-1 home victory over Morecambe FC.

Mark Robins side, which saw three changes from the side that had drawn with Portsmouth seven days ago, took the lead in the 38th minute when Gary McSheffrey was upended by Shrimps keeper Barry Roche after City had broken from a corner.

McSheffrey got up to convert the spot kick and give City a lead, which was doubled, twenty one seconds into the second half when Carl Baker got the ball on the right and let rip with a stunning shot which flew into the net.

The 610 fans of the League Two side had something to cheer in the 76th minute when Kevin Ellison, who had played for Mark Robins at Rotherham United, smashed home a twenty yarder but City held their nerve and booked their place in tomorrow's Round Three draw where they will have ball number 61.
