Cole: No Reason Why We Cannot Finish In The Top Two

Joe Cole has said that there is no reason why Coventry City cannot finish in the top two of the league.

Cole told the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner: There’s no reason at all why we can’t finish in the top two.

“This is the final run-in with 15 games to go and hopefully we have had our blip, got it out of the way and we can just concentrate on winning games now and go up automatically.

“In five games time the whole picture can change. If we win five games in a row we could be on the tails of Burton. Anything could happen.

“We’re not going to win every game 6-0, we might win 1-0 or 2-0 but we showed a lot of quality against Bury and it was a valuable lesson to learn. So much concentration is required because one minute if you are not on it or out of position you get punished.

“It’s not in our nature as English people but if you’re winning 4-0 you need to be able to kill a game off and pass it.

"That’s experience for young lads who might be thinking let’s score again and again but if you’re not careful someone clatters the keeper and gets injured.

“But we set out to keep the ball, made a few changes and everyone who went on got on the ball. It’s just game management.

“Everyone will be patting our backs but we need to go with the same hunger and desire and same applications – work hard and work smart.

“I think the message is we need to remember what we did well out there, how we started, the attitude and how we felt going into the game.

"When you win titles and promotions that’s what does it, not whether you have the best technical players, so we need to keep doing that and our qualities will show.

“It would mean as much as anything I have done to help get Coventry promoted because the next game is always the most important of your career. It keeps me young because once you retire from football you have to grow up don’t you, and I don’t want to do that.”
