Coventry City Founder Willie Stanley and early player George Bowers are to be remembered permanently with headstones after an appeal touched the hearts of City supporters, supporters clubs and websites including this one.

Both lay in un-marked graves in London Road cemetery and over the last eighteen months, Lionel Bird and Ian Devoy, a desecendant of Mr Stanley, ran an appeal to put headstones on their graves.

Enough money was raised and gravestones which were engraved by City supporter and Coventry Sphinx manager Paul Charnley, will be unveiled at a private family ceremony tomorrow.

Lionel Bird said:" Over the last eighteen months, both Ian and I have worked towards this and we are delighted that the headstones are in place. "We would like to thank all those who contributed to the appeal."

The club will mark the 125th anniversary on August 13th and a range of merchandise to mark the anniversary will be available.
