Coventry City historian Lionel Bird has forced Aston Villa to change their records after unearthing evidence which proves that Arthur Brown was the first Coventry born player to play for England.

Bird discovered that Brown was born in Broomfield Place in Spon End, Coventry in 1858 and moved to Aston as a ten year old.

Brown made his England debut against Northern Ireland in the record breaking 13-0 win over Ireland in Belfast on February 15, 1882, scoring four goals.
