Coventry City FC have received monies owed to them by Coventry City Council.

The money which totalled just short of £400,000 came from an over payment of business rates.

Mark Labovitch told the Coventry Telegraph's Simon Gilbert:  “The agreement by which the club played matches there was referred to as a lease. It wasn’t a lease, it was a licence which is just a posh word for permission.

“What the club had was a lease on some rather dingy little offices and a shop. They had permission to play matches there but they had to leave and take all their kit with them at the end. The rates were reassessed and the club was due a refund.”
