Coventry City's 4-0 defeat at Southampton this lunch-time saw the Sky Blues finish in a totally unacceptable 23rd place in the Championship table.

Southampton took the second automatic play-off spot behind Champions Reading who lost 2-0 at Birmingham City.

West Ham United, who needed City to pull off a miracle unhead of in the modern game and beat Southampton, will face Cardiff City who won 2-1 at Crystal Palace n the Play-Offs after the Hammers beat Hull City 2-1.

Blackpool, who drew 2-2 at Millwall, will face Birmingham in the other play-off.

Already relegated Doncaster Rovers lost 3-2 at home to Ipswich and Portsmouth who could be joining City in League One if they get the finances, lost 2-0 at Nottingham Forest.

Elsewhere, Burnley drew 1-1 with Bristol City Derby drew 1-1 with Peterborough, Watford beat Middlesbrough 2-1 and Leicester won 2-1 at Leeds United.
