Coventry City have dropped to 14th in the table following the 3-0 home defeat by Watford.

The Hornets are now nine points clear of second placed West Brom who beat Blackpool 2-1.

At the bottom, QPR drew 0-0 with Preston, Norwich lost at Burnley and Sheffield Wednesday were beaten by Scunthorpe.

Coventry Kid Luke McCormick scored an own goal but Plymouth won 2-1 away to Charlton, whilst Neil Warnock's first game as Crystal Palace ended with a 3-1 defeat to Stoke City.

Leicester are down to 19th after a 1-0 home defeat to Sheffield United and Saturday's opponents for the Sky Blues - Colchester lost 3-1 at Ipswich.

Locally, In the Conference North, Nuneaton drew 2-2 with Boston United at Liberty Way.

Bedworth are out of the FA Trophy after losing 2-1 at home to Hillingdon Borough in a Replay.

Midland Alliance League Cup Round One ties saw a great win for Racing Club Warwick who won 4-0 at Stapenhill with goals from Howell,Holtom,Carpenter

Tile Hill side Massey Ferguson lost 3-1 at home to Nuneaton Griff in a Midland Combination Premier Division fixture whilst in a B'Ham Midweek Floodlit Cup tie, Southam beat Pilkington XXX 3-1.

Former Coventry City defender Steve Staunton has been sacked as the manager of the Republic Of Ireland. A strange appointment by the FAI to appoint someone with no club management ability, Staunton's side won only six of their seventeen matches and cannot now qualify for Euro 2008 following a draw against Cyprus last week. His assistant and former Sky Blue Kevin MacDonald has also been dismissed.
