Iain Dowie has siad that his plans to bring in players next season will greatly be affected by the budget he is is given by the board.

"What we do will be determined by the budget, but there will be changes in the summer, and hopefully quite a few," said Dowie to the CT. "It will be a different team next season because our league position is not good enough.

"This is a good football club and should be pushing for those top six places. Our supporters aren't mugs; they understand that.

"Everybody at this club has given their all since we've been here. "Their effort and commitment has been commendable but the bottom line is that we need better quality.

"It's our job, with the resources that we get, to bring in that better quality. "There are going to be changes and there will be people who fall by the wayside - some already have. "It's pointless bringing in like-for-like - that's a waste of time. What we bring in has got to be better.

"That's what we're going to do, and we're going to try to be brave and bold. "We've identified it as quickly as we can and got into the marketplace and we're quite a way down the line with a number of things. "We have got to wheel and deal - some players will cost money, some will be Bosmans, some will be loans. "We've got to try to work it out. Fingers crossed, with a lot of hard work, we'll be doing that."

How much Dowie will have to spend as well the £500,000 from the McSheffrey deal after Birmingham were promoted is subject to speculation but it wont be spent on Theo Walcott. Dowie said: "Theo Walcott? It's a great rumour, but no. "But Birmingham brought in three players from the Arsenal, who have massively improved their squad, so you have to look at things like that."
