Biggest Gate Cause Traffic Problems

Many supporters had a delayed journey after yesterday's game with Wolves following numerous traffic problems on the A444, Covsupport understands that many Wolves supporters were unaware of the parking regulations emposed by Coventry City Council and Arena Coventry Limited and parked wherever they could.

ACL's Charles Raynor told the club website: "We experienced traffic congestion problems at the end of yesterday's game. "They stemmed entirely from the fact that people parked in the lay-bys on both north and south bound carriageways of the A444 to the north of the Ricoh Arena.

"Normally bollards would be put out Warwickshire County Council preventing cars from parking in the lay-bys but, for whatever reason, that did not happen. As a result, once those lay-bys were full, other motorists started to park on both verges on the north and southbound carriageways thereby reducing the road to single file traffic in both directions.

"The A444 is a marked clearway so it is illegal to park and all cars were ticketed as a result. "But the fact that the near side lanes were blocked, caused problems for everyone on the final whistle. Supporters' coaches and cars were held up as a result and the normally smooth traffic flow was disrupted.

"There were spaces available at our designated park and walk car parks which accepted cash payments on the day and details were well publicised in advance of the game. In addition the Jaguar Whitley park and ride service was operating normally and had spare capacity.

"Not only were people inconvenienced but those drivers who parked on the A444 risked their lives and other people's lives with their irresponsible behaviour. "We would appeal to supporters to plan their travel to the Ricoh Arena in conjunction with our park and walk and park and ride arrangements and latest details of sites are available by contacting our car parking team on 0870 8116514."

Meanwhile, one of the Tescos buses carrying supporters after the game was  involved in a collision. In heavy traffic in Rotherham Road,Holbrooks, the bus crashed into the back of a 4v4 vehicle. There were no injuries.
