Advice For Those Going To The Olympic Matches In Coventry

Last updated : 24 July 2012 By ....

If you are going to any of the twelve matches in the Olympic Games football matches at the City Of Coventry Stadium, then the following advice is offered:

TRAVEL

There are shuttle buses from Coventry Railway Station and Pool Meadow to the stadium in addition to the normal buses that serve the Arena Park. Unless you have applied for blue badge parking, there is no parking at the stadium itself.

There are park and walk sites in operation, be warned that some require a hike, and the parking zone restrictions will be in operation. Planning your travel in advance is recommended.

SEARCHING

Everyone including children, babies and the disabled will be patted down and subjected to airport style security checks. Treat this event as you would going to a concert and only bring necessary items that you can put in your pockets. Do not bring a bag if at all possible. Rucksack like bags will not be permitted and neither will umbrellas.

Expect a heavy police and security presence, with staff specially trained to deal with everything from terrorist attacks to political/ religious demonstrations to streakers and pitch invaders.

Although Coventry City stewards are working these games, there are a number of people brought in by LOCOG, who will not have as much knowledge as to where everything in the Stadium is or where you are supposed to be.

FOOD & DRINK

Expect to pay through the nose for any food and drink bought inside the stadium. You can only pay for food and drink using cash or a VISA credit or debit card.

If you don't wish to pay extortionate prices, then there are plenty of food and drink outlets in Coventry who will be glad of your custom before and after the game/ games.

You cannot bring in liquids over 100ml.

SMOKING

The stadium is non-smoking and you will not be allowed to go out for a smoke at half-time like at Coventry City matches. If you leave the stadium, you will not be allowed back in.
