Micky Adams told reporters after City's 1-0 victory against Brighton & Hove Albion at the Withdean Stadium: "Brighton would have gladly suffered defeat against us as long as they could survive in the League. They have enough good players and I'm sure they will stay up.

"This wasn't a good game, but our aim was to get into the fourth round however we managed it.

"I decided to play Gary McSheffrey down the right and it worked. He caused them problems and scored a good goal, and one goal was always going to decide it."

"One thing that did please me was our mentality going into the game. It was a good defensive display and there were very few clear-cut chances at either end."
