Sky Blues On The Road -Sheffield Wednesday

Last updated : 30 September 2005 By Covsupport

Coventry City travel to bottom of the division Sheffield Wednesday looking for their first away victory of the season.

For the second visit of the season to his city of birth, Micky Adams again finds himself with an injury crisis and is expected to field the majority of the players who played in the victory over Watford on Wednesday night.

Robert Page who can expect some stick from Owls supporters, having played for Sheffield United, has declared himself fit. Matt Heath, Richard Shaw and Neil Wood appear no nearer a come back.

Wednesday boss Paul Sturrock could bring back Jon-Paul McGovern who has recovered from a thigh strain but may leave former Sky Blue Richie Partridge on the bench.

This is the 73rd meeting between the two sides with City having won 27 and drawn 20,scoring 103 goals compared to Wednesday’s 94. Back in the 1980’s Hillsborough was a lucky venue for the Sky Blues with an FA Cup Quarter-Final victory and Semi-Final win over Leeds United back in 1987. It was also the ground where Steve Ogrizovic scored his only goal for the Sky Blues in a 2-2 draw in 1986.

The last time, City played at Hillsborough, keeper Fabien Debrec had a nightmare and Coventry went down to a 5-1 defeat with Julian Joachim scoring a consolation goal.

The referee is Mr L. Mason from Lancashire. Tickets are available priced at £17 for adults.

One of the worst things about visiting Hillsborough are the police and stewards, so expect a hassle trying to get a drink close to the ground and pointless ejections.

The ground is three miles from the City centre and there is some parking around but expect a hike to get to it.

From The North/South/East - Exit the M1 at junction 36 and follow the A61 towards Sheffield. Continue along the road for approximately 4 miles until the 2nd roundabout. Take the 3rd exit (Leppings Lane) - the ground is situated on the left-hand side.

From the West - Take the A57 for Sheffield. As you approach the city the road splits in two - take the left fork onto the Rivelin Valley Road (A6101). Continue for approximately 3.75 miles, turn left (onto one way system) and follow the road round to the right onto Holme Lane. This road then becomes Bradfield Road. At the junction with the A61 Penistone Road, turn left towards Barnsley. Hillsborough Stadium is on the left-hand side after Hillsborough Park.

By Train Sheffield Railway Station (Contact Midland Mainline on 0845 712 5678) is situated in the town centre, 3 miles from the ground

By Supertram Take the South Yorkshire Supertram (signposted from the Railway Station) towards Middlewood Road (yellow route). Exit at the Leppings Lane stop, which is a short walk from the ground.
