Zdenek Stybar of Etixx Quick Step rode away to victory on stage two of the Tirreno Adriatico.

After the prologue, which saw Daniel Oss of BMC in the lead, it was onto the road racing with a 207km stage which took the riders down Italy's west coast.

Six riders in Giorgio Cecchinel (Androni Giocattoli-Sidermec), Simone Andreetta (Bardiani-CSF), Cesare Benedetti (Bora-Argon 18), Luis Mas Bonet (Caja Rural-Seguros RGA), Nikolay Mihaylov (CCC Sprandi Polkowice), and Federico Zurlo (Lampre-Merida), got into the break and were 5.30 ahead with 115kms to go.

That was still at 5.11 with 65kms to go and after Simone Andreetta had taken the sprint and Zurlo took the KOM points on offer on a sunny day.

Their lead stood at two minutes after they reached Pomarance for the first time but with 14.2kms left, their lead was only twelve seconds.

With just over nine kilometres to go and with the escapers caught, Albuacil of Katusha crashed, getting a nasty looking gash on the left hand side of his face.

Attacks came with a bit of pushing and shoving but Sel Vaggi got clear with 4.5kms left and Peter Kennaugh of Team Sky on front of the peloton.

Diego UIissi on local roads started a new charge but Edvald Boasson-Hagen went with him as did Zdenek Stybar who took the final climb and shot off to take the win in 5.10.03, a second ahead of Sagan and Boasson-Hagen.

Stybar now leads the race with a nine second advantage.
