Nairo Quintana was awarded the victory on Stage Two of the Tour de Romandie.

The second stage with Ion Izagirre in the lead, was from Moudon to Morgins and over 173km with a very tough mountain finish.

Six riders in Silin of Katusha, Darryl Impey of Orica GreenEdge, Fumy Beppu of Trek Segafredo, Thomas De Gendt of Lotto Soudal, Marcel Wyss of IAM and Jaco Venter of Dimension Data got into the break and were three minutes ahead with thirty kilometres raced.

Twenty seven kilometres later, the gap had gone out to 3.27 and went out to a maximum of five minutes before Team Sky put in a shift and brought that down to a minute with two climbs left.

Chris Froome punctured and it took a while for him to get back into the group whilst Cannondale teammates Joe Dombrowski and Pierre Rolland went off the front and caught those in the break.

Rolland and Impey tried to get away but were caught on the foot of the final climb - the Pas de Morgins with ten kilometres left and so Nairo Quintana of Movistar made his move.

The Colombian was joined by Ilnur Zakarin (Katusha) for the final five kilometres and the duo stayed away. They went under the flam rouge and then into a sprint which Zakarin won. However, Zakarin had impeded Quintana's path and the judges decided to give the win to a clear upset Nairo Quintana with a race time of 4.28.40, a victory which means that Quintana is the new leader of the race.
