Good Scores For Bell And Trott But England Lose

Warwickshire's Jon Trott and Ian Bell both recorded excellent innings for England but it was in vain as Ireland won their World Cup match by three wickets.

In Bangalore, England batted first and Coventry born Ian Bell and fellow Warwickshire player Jon Trott put on 167 for the third wicket when Bell was caught by Stirling for 81.

Trott went onto make a superb 92 from 92 balls before he bowled by Mooney as England recorded a scored a 327-8 from their fifty overs which included seven from Warwickshire's Boyd Rankin.

England were guilty of some woeful fielding after William Portfield had dragged the ball onto his own wicket with the first ball of the innings. A string of catches were dropped and this allowed Kevin O'Brien to make the fastest ever century in World Cup matches.

Instead of wrapping up the match, England let Ireland get into needing nineteen runs from the last seventeen deliveries with four wickets in hand.

That was down to twelve runs from twelve balls before O'Brien was run out for 113 from 63 balls. Trent Johnston came into partner John Mooney and hit a four with his opening ball.

More poor fielding meant it was three runs required from the final over and a four from Mooney was enough to give Ireland a three wicket win.

England now face South Africa on Sunday.
