Fernando Gaviria of Etixx Quick Step has won the second stage of the Tour De San Luis in Argentina.

Max Richeze of Etixx Quick Step was in the leader's jersey for this 181.9km stage from San Luis passing through La Cumbrie and Justo Daract before reaching Villa Mercedes.

The break took its time to form and when it did, six riders in Juan I.Curuchet of the Argentina national team, Ariel Sivori (Los Mancheros), Emiliano Ibarra (San Juan), Israel Nuño (Inteja), Genki Yamamoto (Nippo Vini) and Brazilian national team rider Caio Godoy got into the break and were 3.30 clear as they passed through a toll booth, after some thirty kilometres of racing.

That went out to 3.50 and then 4.18 before Juan Curuchet took the first sprint after 53.1kms.

With less than 100 kilometres left, their lead stood at 5.18.as Curuchet beat Sivori to the points for the second intermediate sprint.

On a beautiful day, Etixx Quick Step worked on the front of the peloton and the gap started to come down.

It dropped to 4.48 with 62kms left before Nuño decided his work for the day was done and he dropped back to the peloton as the five started on the final forty kilometres with a fifth minute lead and Ibarra the virtual leader on the road.

The five had extended that to six minutes, ten kilometres later but was down to five minutes as the break started to attack each other with twenty kilometres left.

Caio Godoy, Sivori and Yamaoto were out in front with a lead of 2.30 with eleven kilometres left.

Five kilometres later and a minute had been shaved off their lead but  under the flam rouge, the break was over and although there was one attack, there was a sprint down the right and Fernando Gaviria of Etixx Quick Step took the win in 4.23.54 ahead of Peter Sagan, Elia Viviani, Edward Grosu and Lucas Haedo.

Gaviria now takes over the lead of the race from team mate Max Richeze with Etixx Quick Step leading the way in the team competition.
