Gaviria Wins Tirreno Adriatico Stage Three

Fernando Gaviria of Etixx Quick Stephas won stage three of the Tirreno Adriatico.

Stage three was a 176km stage from Castelnuovo val di Cecina to Montalto di Castro and saw Cecchinel, Andreetta, D Goncalves, Vilella and Honkisz get 4.30 away after 21kms.

That dropped to 3.30 with 108kms left but went out to 4.15 on the day's climb at Scansano.

Davide Villella of Cannondale took the climb as the leader's went through Montemarano with a lead of 2.51.

That was down to 1.43 with twenty five kilometres to go.

Tinkoff working for Peter Sagan and and Etixx Quick Step took turns on the front of the peloton and the gap was down to 31 seconds with five kilometres.

The break was finally caught with 1.5kms left and Danielle Bennatti led but up came Fernando Gaviria and Caleb Ewen. 

They sprinted for the line and it was the Etixx Quick Step rider who took the win ahead of Ewen.
