Gavira Wins Tour Of Poland Stage Two

Etixx Quick Step's Fernando Gavira took the win on Stage Two of the Tour Of Poland.

Stage One with Etixx Quick Step's Davide Martinelli in the leader's jersey was a 153km stage from Tarnowskich Gór to Katowice.

After a minutes silence to honour those killed in the train collision in Italy, the stage got underway with British rider Sean Yates in a group of ten riders who got clear after just over twenty kilometres.

Yates took the first Lotto Sprint Prime in Piekary Œl¹skie but it was Jonas Koch who took the special sprint in Bytom before he got in a break with Kozhayayev of Astana, Marcel Aregger of IAM Cycling, Owsian Arkadiusz of CCC Spandi and Dariusz Detko.

The break was two minutes clear after 62kms with Koch taking the second and third Lotto Sprint Prime.

Onto the three closing laps around Katowice and with four laps to go, the leaders were ahead by 1.50 and dropped down to a minute.

Aregger took the points on the climb to go into the lead in the KOM competition and stayed clear as the rest of the escapers were caught, leaving Aregger out front with a 25 second advantage with twenty kilometres to go.

Four kilometres later and Aregger was caught and big crowds gathered round the finish line to see Tinkoff, Orica Bikeexchange and Movistar start to get their sprinters into positiion.

However, it was Etixx Quick Step's Fernando Gavira who took the win and thanks to his second place on the opening stage, goes into the race lead, just ahead of Elia Viviani, Ewan, Sbaragli, Hofland,  Bonifazio, Haussler, Arndt, De Buyst  and Zielinski.
