The riders were all together for the opening fourteen kilometres. So, Meyer (DPC), Miller KRD) and birthday boy Ben Hill (ATG) tried an attack which was soon brought back.

Jack Bobridge of Trek Segafredo tried his luck and got twenty seconds clear and stayed away to take the sprint after 33.7kms ahead of Giacoppo (AIW), Shaw and Kennaugh before being brought back.

Koishi (NIP) & Harper (SOM0 were the next two out in front and had a lead of 1.11 and 3.37 after 44kms.

The gap had gone out to 4.57 when Koishi took the KOM Powelltown climb after fifty kilometres ahead of Harper and Chris Froome.

Neil Van der Ploeg was the next to attack and he took a lead of 23 seconds over Christie (KRD) and Bayly (ATG), who were able to join him.

They had a lead of two minutes but Team Sky and Orica GreenEdge upped the pace and brought the lead of the trio down to thirty seconds with just over twenty kilometres to go.

it was still thirty seconds as the riders started on a fifteen kilometre loop around Moe.

As the wind got up, Team Sky brought back the escapers and with three kilometres to go, a new six man break of Caleb Ewan, Jack Haig, Chris Froome, Peter Kennaugh, Tanner Putt and Jack Bobridge formed.

Within a kilometre, they had a lead of 22 seconds and as the six went under the flam rouge, Peter Kennaugh attacked again.

However, this time, he could not stay clear and Caleb Ewan of Orica GreenEdge took the win in 3h29:06 ahead of Tanner Putt, Peter Kennaugh who retains the leader's jersey, Chris Froome and Jack Bobridge.
