Nacer Bouhanni of Cofidis made it two out of two when he took the win on stage two of the Volta A Catalunya.

Nacer Bouhanni of Cofidis led out the 188 other riders on this 178.5km stage from Mataró to Olot, after a moment of silence for those affected by the bombing in Brussels.

After thirteen kilometres, Maxime Bouet, Thomas De Gendt (Lotto Soudal), Kamil Gradek (Verva Activejet) and Boris Dron (Wanty) formed a break which saw Boris Dron take the Coronan Can Bordoi climb after twenty six kilometres.

Their lead at one time was at three minutes but after 78kms, it was down to 2.22 when Thomas De Gendt took the intermediate sprint at Llagostera.

With Cofidis leading the peloton, the break was back up to 2.40 as they started on the category one Alt de Els climb which Dron took to put him in the KOM Jersey lead.

De Gendt took the three points in the intermediate sprint at Banyoles and then went away on his own.

Cofidis continued to control the peloton and got the gap down to 1.01 and with fifteen kilometres left. they had caught De Gendt.

The speed went up to 72kmh so Team Sky took to the front of the peloton as did Movistar and Cofidis on a stage finish which again was one for the sprinters.

Under the flam rouge and Cofidis had  riders in the front. Geoffrey Soupe attacked and this allowed Nacer Bouhanni to come up and win in a time of 4.39.10 ahead of Gianni Meersman and Philippe Gilbert.

"A good start and finish to this race," said Bouhani who has extended his lead in the race. "I was not in good shape. I had to see the doctor and hope I feel better tomorrow. "We will see how the race goes but the next few days are not going to be easy."

Team Sky now lead the team classification.
