Boason-Hagen Wins Tour Of Qatar Stage Two

Dimension Data's Edvald Boasson-Hagen has won the second stage of the Tour Of Qatar and taken over the lead of the race.

Luxembourg rider Bob Jungels was in the leaders red jersey for a second 162km stage from Omantel Head Office to Quriyat which had an hill top finish.

The Etixx Quick Step rider led out the riders who let Pfingsten, Perichon, Dehaes, Jesper Asselman, Steels and Kamp get away after seven kilometres.

They were 2.05 clear after twenty kilometres and ahead when Pfinsgten took the first climb of the day.

Pfinsgten attacked the peloton who were 4.15 ahead but was soon caught by the rest of the escapers and they took their lead out to six minutes, which was down to three minutes with just over one hundred kilometres left to race.

Through the Al-amrat/Quraiat region and Alexander Kamp took the first intermediate sprint ahead of Dehaes and Steels before a split in the lead group at the 106km mark saw Kamp Asselman and Perichon go clear.

With forty five kilometres left, this trio were 1.30 ahead of the other three escapers and 3.40 ahead of the peloton who started to put on the pressure and quickly reduced their lead to 1.50 and caught them inside the final twenty kilometres of the stage.

The peloton broke into several groups with Irishman Dan Martin in the second group as they started the final climb which was 2.5kms long with average gradients of 6.5%.

The front group stayed clear and out of it came Edvald Boasson-Hagen to take the stage win ahead of Astana's Vincezo Nibali and BMC's Greg Van Avermaet, followed by Pozzovivo and Rebellin.
