Bradley Wiggins won the ninth stage of the Tour De France this afternoon.

A 41.5km Individual Time Trial was the task for the riders today and Gustav Larsson set the early fastest time of 54-19 on the stage between Arc et Senans which was staging a Le Tour departure for the first time and Besancon.

Mark Cavendish completed the course in 1.00.07, before Lieuwe Westra went through in 54.09.

David Millar had been tipped to do well but he came in at 55.38. However, another tipped to do well was Tony Martin. Despite the German riding with a broken wrist, Martin (pictured below) did not disappoint with a time of 53.40.

Steve Cummings came home in a time of 55.47 before at 14.54 local time, Fabian Cancellera (pictured below), who had won the prologue but was now in 36th place went down the ramp.

Cancellera, undoubtedly one of the world's great time trialiers, was fastest at both checkpoints and finished in a time of 52.21.

Sylvain Chavanel moved into second with a time of 52.48.

We started to get down the list and Chris Froome went down the ramp. He set the fastest time for the first check. Cadel Evans etc, could not beat that time but one man could and that was the race leader and last man down the ramp Bradley Wiggins who was 4.72 seconds quicker.

Froome was again fastest through the second check point, this time by twenty seconds and set the fastest time of 51.39

Nicholas Roche came in at 54.32 whilst Cadel Evans came in 1.07 down on Froome.

Then flying home came Bradley Wiggins (pictured below) to win the stage in a time of 51.24 to give him a lead of 1.53 over Evans and 2.07 over Froome.
