Vasili Kiryienka won the second stage of the Basque Tour this afternoon.

On a sunny day, this was a 163 km stage from Zumarraga to Lekunberri and saw BMC's Amael Moinard, Quickstep's Dario Cataldo, Astana's Maxim Iglinskiy and Geox's Rafael Valls Ferri go clear.

The quartet were finally caught by a peleton led by Ireland's Danny Martin with 32.3km left of the stage.

Rafael Valls led going into the final kilometre but Movistar's Vasili Kiryienka shot away and cruised to victory in a time of 4hr 6 mins and forty seconds.

Andreas Klodden was second with Britain's Steve Cummings safely in the top twenty.

Vasili Kiryienka now leads the general classification for this race by two seconds from Klodden and Andy Schleck.

Tomorrow's third stage is 180kms long and is from Villatuerta via Zuia to Murgia.
