Colombian Rigoberto Uran of Omega Pharma Quick Step took the Individual time trial on stage twelve of the Giro D'Italia.

Sven Tuft, who was the first man in pink in this race, was first down the ramp in Barbaresco on a 41.9km time trial to Barolo.

The Orica Greenedge rider set the time to beat of 1:05.06 and that lasted until Rick Flens of Belkin, who was the tenth rider to finish, came home in 1.01.49.

Patrick Grestsch then went fastest in 59:46 with Hondo coming in 1:29 down on the AG2R rider's time before Omega Pharma Quick Step's Thomas De Gendt finished in 59.41.

On very wet roads, Tobias Ludvigsson crashed and went over a barrier. After some time, Ludvigsson did sit up but his race was over.

Lampre's Diego Ulissi was fastest at the first check point and he put in a super performance to finish in 58.51.

At 4.20pm local time, race leader Cadel Evans was the last man down the ramp. The Australian was ninth at the first checkpoint and was eighth at the second checkpoint.

Rafal Majka rode himself into second place behind Ulissi but it was soon third as Rigoberto Uran of Omega Pharma Quick Step flew in at 57.34.

Evans was still out on the road trying to limit his losses and finished in 59.08 in third place to give Uran the win and a lead in the general classification of 37 seconds over Evans and 1.52 on Majka.

Uran said to Daniel Lloyd: "I did not think I would win it but it is a superb day for my team and myself. I did a lot of work over the winter and was fourth in Romandie and it was a good win for me."
