Ullisi Wins Giro 17th Stage

David Ullisi won the seventeenth stage of the Giro D'Italia.

A long day in the saddle for the riders who left Feltre and headed towards the finish at Tirano on a cloudy day.

The breaks started early and sixteen comprising of  Christian Le Mevel (Garmin-Cervelo), Giovanni Visconti (Farnese Vini), Leonardo Giordani (Farnese Vini), Jan Bakelants (Omega Pharma-Lotto), Robert Kiserlovski (Astana), Kanstanstin Svitsov (HTC), Jesus Hernandez (Saxo Bank), Pablo Lastras (Movistar), Diego Ulissi (Lampre-ISD), Eduard Vorganov (Katusha), Alberto Losada (Katusha), Mathias Frank (BMC), Fabio Taborre (Acqua & Sapone), Addy Engels (Quick Step), Herve Dupont (Ag2r-La Mondiale) and Ben Gastauer (Ag2r-La Mondiale), got over six minutes clear of the peleton.

Ullisi, Visconti, Bakelants and Lastras were in front as the race went into the final 500 metres. Visconti looked to be first over the line to finsh in a time of 5hr 31 mins 51mins, but it looked like he wice shoved Ullisi away as he made his way to the line and the decision as to who won was down to the race commissar.

Visconti was demoted to third and the race award to David Ullisi.

Alberto Contado leads the race by over four minutes.

Tomorrow's stage is from Morbegno to San Pellegrino Terme and is 151kms long.
