South West round of The Tour Series set for half-term week on English Riviera

Britain’s leading televised cycle race Series will return to Torquay this May as the country’s top professional cycling teams battle it out on the English Riviera in Round Six of the Series on Tuesday 28th May.

Riders from the Spin Rotor – Primal – C-Originals were on hand in Torquay to assist Mayor Gordon Oliver in launching the event on South Devon’s Beautiful Bay.

Tuesday 28th May will see the unique, team based Series return to Torbay for the second successive season, with spectators from across the Westcountry expected to attend in their only chance this year to see the action and excitement of The Tour Series first-hand.

Torbay’s Mayor, Gordon Oliver, said: “After the great success of last year’s event, The Tour Series is set to return to the Bay.  The event has grown significantly and promises to be even more exciting this year.  There will be an event village on Torre Abbey Meadows with many different activities and displays throughout the day while the community races take place.  The excitement will carry on through to the evening when we will see the professional riders take to the circuit to give a spectacular show.

“We are keen to attract events large and small events that have a positive direct economic impact on local businesses.  The events that took place last year provided a feel good factor and gave local businesses a real boost.  This reinforced the message that The English Riviera is a great place to live, work, visit and invest in.”

Highlights from the Torquay round of The Tour Series will be shown on ITV4 on the evening of Wednesday 29th May at 10pm.

“We are looking forward to returning to Torquay with the half-term date providing a perfect chance for residents and visitors alike to enjoy first-class professional cycle racing,” said Series Race Director Mick Bennett.

“With our partners at Torbay Council we are working hard to ensure it’s a memorable event for all and showcases all of the opportunities for cycling in the area.”

Having successfully ridden as a guest team at the 2012 Torquay and Colchester rounds of The Tour Series, Spin Rotor – Primal – C-Originals will make their full Tour Series debuts in 2013, becoming one of the ten squads competing in every round of the unique team based Series.

The Tour Series celebrates its fifth season of competition in 2013.  Past winners of the unique competition include Team Halfords Bikehut (2009), Motorpoint Marshalls Pasta (2010), Rapha Condor Sharp (2011) and Endura Racing (2012).
