Geraint Thomas won the Individual Time Trial on the opening day of the Tour Of Romandie in Switzerland.

A 3.34 Individual Time trial around Lausanne saw Geraint Thomas (pictured below) from a very strong Team Sky which also includes Bradley Wiggins and World Champion Mark Cavendish, go off early and set the fastest time of 3.29.43.

Mark Cavendish rode well to come in 6.13 down on Thomas in third and give Team Sky three riders in the top four although there was some big names in the field left to come.

The rain was now starting to come down meaning that the road was greasy and this meant Ireland's Danny Martin came in 22 seconds down.

Bradley Wiggins came in 11th fastest, some 9.11 seconds down before Cadel Evans was the last man on the road but came in nineteen seconds down to give Thomas the win ahead of Nizzolo and Mark Cavendish.

Thomas said to Eurosport: "It was a nice little win, The weather played into my hands but there is only so much time you can lose on a corner. "My role will be to help Cav whenever the sprints come. "We will give it everything we have."

Thomas won the leaders jersey and all of the other jerseys apart from the Young Rider which Nizzolo won.
