Taaramäe Wins Vuelta Ciclista Murcia

Rein Taaramäe won the Vuelta Ciclista Murcia in Spain with a solo victory.

Mark Cavendish was amongst a strong field for this race of two category one climbs and a finish on a category three climb on the Alto Fortaleza del Sol which saw Victort Martin of the Burgos team and Garikoitz Bravo of the Murias Taldea team taking a two minute lead.

They stayed away until the 146 kilometre mark when Dani Navarro took over and gained a small lead.

Then with just over forty kilometres to go, Rein Taaramäe of Astana went off on his own and took on a headwind.

The Estonian built a lead of 2.27 with ten kilometres left and kept going to win by ten seconds in 5.11. 38 ahead of Dutch rider Bauke Mollema and Czech rider Ždenek Stybar.

Mark Cavendish failed to finish.

“At 2k to go I almost started crying – the group was getting closer and my legs were getting heavier ” – Rein Taaramäe said to his team after his victory.
