Saxo Bank's Alberto Contador has won the Giro D'Italia today.

On a shortened 26km course around Milan for the final stage competed by 159 riders, Britain's David Millar set the fastest time of 30 mins and 13 seconds with HTC Highroad's Alex Rasmussen coming in seven seconds down.

Millar was still ahead until Alberto Contador who faces a decision from the Court Of Arbitration after testing positive for Clenbuterol at last year's Tour de France and initailly cleared by the Spanish Cycling Federation in February, something the UCI and WADA have both appealed to CAS about, took to the road at 15.57 UK time and was favourite to take the stage.

Contador was a second quicker than Millar at the first split time but at the second check point, he was seventeen seconds down on Rasmussen. The Spaniard came in at 30.49 which was good enough for third and gave Millar the superb victory he deserved on a podium draped in banners saying 108 WW Always With Us.

Russell Downing finished the stage in 73rd with Peter Kennaught finishing  122nd.

Contador who has now won tThree Tours de France, two Giro d'Italia and one Vuelta a Espana, dedicated the race win to Wouter Weylandt.
