Simon Yates of the Great Britian Team won the sixth stage of the Tour of Britain.

The race moved back into England after yesterday's finish in Caerphilly won by Sam Bennett of An Post Chain Reactions with 99 riders rolling out of Sidmouth, in Devon which is to host Tour Of Britain stages in 2014,2016 and 2108, on a 137km stage to Haytor in Dartmoor National Park.

A stage of three Yodel Direct Sprints in Tiverton (37.9km), Exeter (62.26km) and Chudleigh (95.4km) and Sokda KOM climbs after 59.6kms outside Exeter, Mamhead - 84.1 km, Six Mile Hill 117.5 km and at the finish, saw plenty of early attacks.

In Tiverton, Movistar's Angel Madrazo, the leader in the King Of The Mountains and Sprint Competition, was first over the sprint line to take his lead in the sprint competition to eight points in a group of Kristian House (RCJ), Liam Holohan (MGT), Martin Velits (OPQ) and Ian Wilkinson (UKY) which had a lead of 3.20.

Next up was the first climb of the day - the Category 2 Pennsylvania Road climb heading in the city of Exeter and it was no surprise that Angel Madrazo claimed the full points ahead of House, Wilkinson, Holohan - the days most combative rider, Velits and Berni Eisel, who was again working hard for race leader Sir Bradley Wiggins.

In Exeter, Ian Wilkinson took the second sprint with another two points for Madrazo, who took the points for the Mamhead climb with 52.4kms to go.

As the escapers arrived at Chudleigh for the third sprint, their lead was 2.22. Ian Wilkinson took the final sprint with another two points for Madrazo as Bardiani and Team Sky worked on the front of the peloton in the sunshine to further reduce the gap.

Onto Six Mile Hill with 24.5kms to go and the gap was down to 1.26. Wilkinson and Kristian House dropped off, leaving just three to take the climb, which saw Madrazo take the points before upping the pace with 19kms remaining.

The trio stayed clear until 5.7kms to go when they were joined by a leading group of 25 riders including the race leader, in Bovey Tracey.

Stefan Pirazzi attacked on the final climb up to Haytor and with 3.3kms left, Garmin Sharp's Dan Martin took to the front along with an Iam Cycling rider.

Wiggins group soon reined them in but Martin attacked again but so did Nairo Quintana.

Wiggins took to the front, setting a tempo that would stop any attacks in front of some big crowds. David Lopez went for the line but he was passed on the final corner by Simon Yates of the Great Britain U23 team to take the win ahead of Elmiger and Lopez of Team Sky in in 3.23.43. Wiggins was seventh

Yates who hopes to turn professional said: "It was one of the best things to win a stage of your national tour you cannot get much better. I did not believe it until I looked a few metres before the line.

"I had good legs for most of the day and I made the last little bit and I clicked on from there."

Bradley Wiggins keeps his leaders jersey,  going into the penultimate stage with Movistar's Angle Madrazo retaining the lead in the King Of The Mountains (72pts) and Sprint Jersey Competition (30pts), whilst Martin Elmiger leads the Points Classification (48pts)
