Simon Gerrans Wins The Les Grands Prix Cyclistes de Québec

Simon Gerrans has won the 5th Les Grands Prix Cyclistes de Québec in Canada.

The first of two UCI World Tour races in Canada saw a 199.1km eight lap race around Quebec.

Jan Polanc of Lampre, Dennis Van Winden of Belkin, Moser of Cannondale and Arashiro of Europcar  attacked before the first climb with fourteen kilometres gone and they were 1.38 ahead by the end of the first lap.

Team Sky's Joseph Dombrowski abandoned as the four leaders increased their time to 3.55 with thirty kilometres gone.

The four will still away after 131kms with a lead of 1.45 but after Arashiro had taken the KOM climb,  they were caught with less than sixty kilometres left.

Perrig Quemeneur of Europcar tried to attack but was caught and Valls, Minard, Sorensen, Agnoli, Bookwalter, Hivert, Keukeleire, Navardauskas, Von Hoff, Reza and Woods took over with a 24 seconds after 166kms.

Michael Woods took the ten points on the climb to take the lead in the GPM competition as the front group extended to fifteen riders.

Onto the final lap with a lead of twenty seconds, the peloton finally caught the escapers, despite Agnoli and Woods making a brave effort to stay away until they were caught with 6.6kms left.

Rui Costa was on the front on the Cote de montagne whilst Simon Gerrans of Orica GreenEdge moved himself up to the front with BMC's Greg Van Avermaet.

Over the Cote de Potasse and Vandendert of Lotto broke followed by a BMC rider plus an Omega Pharma Quick Step and under the flam rouge they went.

Michael Albasini brough Simon Gerrans, avoiding a crash which took down Vichot of FDJ as Tom Dumoulin.went for the line. Up came Gerrans, who timed it superbly and he won in 4.42.53 ahead of Dumoulin, Navardauskas, Impey and Van Avermaet.
