Santaromita Wins Giro Del Trentino Third Stage

BMC's Ivan Santaromita won the third stage of the 37th Giro Del Trentino today.

Stage three in glorious sunshine saw the race head out from Pergine Valsugana on a 176.1km stage to Condino (Valle delle Chiese).

There were a number of riders who did not start and Pozzavivo who abandoned seven kilometres in before eight riders took to the front and got away from the peloton which included race leader Maxime Bouet.

This group of eight riders which included Lampre's Michele Scaponi had a lead of two minutes with 20kms to go

Scaponi and Astana's Paolo Tiralongo got away as the gap went down to the ninety second mark on the final climb of the day and they were joined by Santaromita of BMC, who were down to four riders.

Nibali, Wiggins and Bouet led the chasing pack but the trio were away.

The cat and mouse games started. With 200ms to go, the sprint started and Santaromita put in a great run to win in a time of 4.26.25 ahead of Tiralongo and Scaponi.

The peloton came in 1.23 down and Maxime Bouet continues to lead by 3.19 from Team Sky duo Kanstantin Siutsov and Bradley Wiggins who took over third place from Vincenzo Nibali.
