Riders to go for Gold at this year's Pearl Izumi Tour Series

Last updated : 09 May 2013 By Peter Hodges

Britain’s top cyclists will be racing for Gold from next week, as they battle for the new golden IG Sprints Jersey during The Pearl Izumi Tour Series.

While the unique focus of the Series is on the teams, with Britain’s leading ten professional squads battling it out to win overall, riders will also be aiming for individual success with the IG Sprints Jersey, backed by IG, the world-leading provider of Contracts for Difference (CFDs), financial spread betting and forex.

Three ‘hot spot’ IG Sprints during each race will see points awarded towards the Vitesse produced IG Sprints Jersey, with the points leader overall pulling on the jersey after every round.

The sponsorship builds on IG’s involvement as Official Partners of The Tour of Britain, the UK’s biggest professional cycle race, where the overall race leader wears the prestigious IG Gold Jersey.

Past winners of The Pearl Izumi Tour Series Sprint’s competition are Bernard Sulzberger (2012), Steve Lampier (2011), Graham Briggs (2010) and Russell Downing (2009).

The Pearl Izumi Tour Series gets underway in Kirkcaldy, Fife on Tuesday 14th May, with rounds taking place on weekday evenings in town and city centres across the UK.  Ten teams of five professional cyclists will battle it out at each round for the right to be crowned the best team in Britain.

Highlights will be shown on ITV4 in a 10pm slot the evening after every round during this year’s Series.
