Rebelin Wins Tour Of Turkey Third Stage

CCC Sprandl's Davide Rebelin has taken victory on the third stage of the Tour Of Turkey.

Stage three saw the race move into the mountains after Mark Cavendish had taken the two sprints on the opening two stages and stage three was from Kemer to Elmali and 165.3 kms long.

Sam Spokes, Marco Bandiera, José Gonçalves, Songezo Jim and Juan Pablo Valencia formed a break which had a lead of 3.15 agter 79kms and 2.45 when Spokes and Bandiera were dropped.

A group of seven riders in Tom Boonen, Pavel Brutt, Thomas De Gendt, Gert Dockx, Lars Boem, Reguigui and Jelle Wallays joined the three away for the final forty kilometres with a lead of less than twenty seconds. 

Brutt of Tinkoff Saxo, Wallays of Topsport and Josef Reguigui of MTN Qhubeka did their best to stay away, taking a thirty second lead before they started on the climb at Elmali.

With ten kilometres left and a small peloton chasing, Wallays dropped back to the peloton.and a kilometre later, Brutt and Wallays were as well.

Davide Rebellin of CCC Sprandl, Parra of Caja Rural and Durasek of Lampre. Parra was soon shelled as this duo took a lead twenty four seconds with 3.8kms left.

Coming up to ramps of 13% and 20%, Jay McCarthy and Barbin chased afer Rebelin and Durasek and they were twenty seconds ahead of a chasing group of Lopez, Kozhatayev, Sepulveda, Cano, Hansen, Ratto, Megias, Selvaggi, Marczinsky and Meier.

Durasek and Rebellin aextended their lead to 36 seconds over the second group of Barbin, McCarthy and Parra.and 55 seconds over the third group on the road.

Sepulveda mounted an attack having passed the Barbin group but with 1.7kms to, Kristian Durasek and the 43 year old Rebelin looked comfortable as Sepulveda was 34 seconds behind them.

Davide Rebelin left it until sixty metres to go and shot away to win in 4.34.12 with Durasek coming in seven seconds later, Sepulveda came in third forty seven seconds down, followed by McCarthy, Pauwels,  Barbin, Parra, Ratto and Cano.

Rebelin now leads the race by seven seconds.
