Race leader Nairo Quintana made it four stage wins for Colombian riders when he cruised to victory on the Mountain Time Trial at the 97th Giro D'Italia.

Stage nineteen was a mountain time trial which started in Bassano del Grappa and rose all the way up after 26.8kms to the finish on the 1712m Cima Grappa.

On a brutal stage which had saw ramps with a maximum gradient of 14% to be negotiated, Michael Hepburn of Orica Greenedge set the first time of 1:17.21, having passed his minute man Jetse Bol of Belkin in the mountain fog.

Jos Van Emden, today had a different motive than putting in a good time and got off his bike and asked his girlfriend, who was on the side of the road to marry him. She said yes and Van Emden got back on his bike and completed the course.

Cannondale's Michel Koch finished in 1.15.17 but Kenny de Haes was not able to record such a good time after snapping his chain and without a support vehicle, finishing in 1:27:00, some fourteen minutes and forty one seconds down.

Bardiani's Nicola Boem went quicker in 1:12:19 with Team Sky's Ben Swift coming in ten seconds down on Boem's time before Sonny Colbrelli finished in 1.12.03 and then Stefano Piraazi finished in 1.10.11.

Lotto's Tim Wellen's set a new time to beat of 1.09.37 as race leader Nairo Quintana of Movistar went down the ramp, to tackle a stage he had described as 'demanding'.

Team Sky's Sebastian Henao, the youngest rider in the race then finished in 1.09.25 but that only lasted until Franco Pellizotti finished in  1:08.59, whilst down the road, Quintana was the fastest at the second checkpoint.

Cadel Evans finished in 1.10.03 which was currently fifth fastest as Dominico Pozzovivo of AG2R finished in 1.08.01.

The Italian support was going mad as Astana's Fabio Aru finished in 1.05.54 with Rigoberto Uran finishing 1.40.

In came the last man on the road - Nairo Quintana. The Colombian had been the fastest on the road and he finished in 1.05.37 to take the stage victory and extend his lead in the race going into the penultimate stage.
