Movistar's Nairo Quintana won the sixth stage of the  Criterium Du Dauphine this afternoon.

An early start for the riders on this 166.5km stage from Saint-Alban-Leysse to Morzine minus Andy Schleck.

Fifteen riders in Petr Ignatenko, Alberto Losada and Yuriy Trofimov (Katusha), Thomas Voeckler and Pierre Rolland (Europcar), Blel Kadri and Christophe Riblon (AG2R), Tiago Machado (RadioShack), Maciej Paterski and José Sarmiento (Liquigas), Rémy Di Gregorio and David Moncoutié (Cofidis), Egoi Martinez (Euskaltel), Mario Marzano (Lampre), Jesus Hernandez (Saxo Bank), Sylvain Chavanel (Omega Pharma), Brice Feillu (Saur - Sojasun), Alexandre Geniez (Argos), Matteo Carrara (Vacansoleil) broke away.

With 66kms to go, their lead was 3.47, just before Sylvain Chavanel was first over the Col de la Colombière, a mountain that has been a feature of many a Tour De France race.

Brice Filleu decided to go it alone and he was first onto the Col du Joux Pane as BMC brought Cadel Evans went to the front of the peloton. Race Leader Bradley Wiggins reacted to this and he and his Team Sky team-mates moved up to keep the Australian in check.

Richie Porte, Edvald Boason-Hagen and Wiggins put the hammer down and dropped the likes of Martin and Wilco Kelderman to bring the gap down to 1.13 with 16kms to go.

With 13kms left, Filleu was caught at the front by Movistar's Nairo Quintana with the Sky led peloton now on 15 seconds behind.

Quintana was first over the Col du Joux Pane which saw big crowds including a good number of Brits.

Cadel Evans then attacked on the descent. Again he was followed straight away by Wiggins and his team in a group of ten riders.

Evans went again with five kilometres to go in an attempt to try and catch Quintana who was first into Morzine and won in a time of 4.46.12.

Evans was second with Wiggins in fourth less than ten seconds later.
